The Ministry of Rural Environment and Agricultural Policy has put out to tender for 659,107 euros the comprehensive rehabilitation of the road that connects to El Bargo, in the municipality of San Tirso de Abres, up to the border with Galicia. The works, which have an execution period of six months, aim to increase safety and optimize the circulation conditions on this road considered strategic.
According to the Principality, as detailed in a press release, the intervention will take place along 2,885 meters of road and will include both the main access axis to El Bargo and two branches that connect with the towns of Foxas and Vilelas. The route starts at the N-640 road, at the height of El Llano, and extends to the border with Galicia.
The work is proposed as a response to the marked deterioration currently presented by the road, with potholes, areas of severely damaged pavement, and loss of the wearing course at various points. Although the existing layout will be preserved, the structure of the pavement will be significantly reinforced. Among the most relevant actions is the renewal of the pavement through the extension of hot bituminous mixture. Additionally, in the areas with the most damage, repair work will be carried out and a new base of artificial gravel will be added to increase the load-bearing capacity of the pavement.
The project also includes the modernization of the drainage system, with the cleaning of ditches and the installation of new infrastructures to facilitate water evacuation. At the same time, the already installed transverse drainage network will be improved.
In the field of road safety, the metal barrier located around the Rego da Ramadela, whose state of conservation is poor, will be replaced. Likewise, eight signs will be installed at different crossings of the road, and the horizontal signage will be completely renewed.
The plan also incorporates specific actions for pedestrians. In the first section of the main axis, a sidewalk of 35 meters in length and 1.5 meters in width will be executed, which will continue the already existing one and facilitate walking to the nearby recreational area.
The intervention will be completed with the construction of a small masonry wall intended to stabilize the platform of the access branch to Foxas, as well as with cleaning and adaptation work on margins, ditches, wildlife crossings, and pipes.
