Tempos Vega Sicilia has taken one more step in the diversification of its catalog with the presentation of Deiva, its first white wine made in Spain, born in the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin after ten years of work, according to the winery details in a note.
The inaugural vintage Deiva 2024 materializes the search and the long-term ambition of this renowned Spanish wine house to create a "great white wine with its own identity, depth and capacity for evolution" which, over time, aspires to be among the great whites on the international scene.
"When we arrived in Galicia, we had a clear vision, but also much to learn. It was essential to listen to those who have been working this land for generations, to understand its particularities and respect its times. Deiva is the result of that journey and, above all, the beginning of a path that we want to continue building for many years," said the CEO of Tempos Vega Sicilia, Pablo Álvarez.
The firm's landing in Galicia began in 2018 with the first vineyard purchases, a process that now culminates with the market launch of Deiva 2024. Around 32,000 bottles have been made from this first harvest, which will be marketed both in the Spanish market and in various foreign countries.
At present, the project includes 24 hectares of its own vineyards spread among different estates: Caxín and Sisán (Val do Salnés) and Palancas, Framilo and Valexie (Condado de Tea), as well as a winery located in Crecente (Pontevedra). The whole has required an initial investment of 20 million euros intended for the purchase of vineyards and the construction and equipping of the facilities.
With this foray into Galicia, the emblematic winery strengthens its presence on the national wine map, where it already operates with Vega Sicilia and Alión in Ribera del Duero; with Pintia, in Toro; and with Macán, in Rioja, through a 'joint venture' with the Rothschild family, in addition to its international presence with the Hungarian winery Oremus.
Deiva 2024 is presented as the first expression of a long-term project conceived in Galician lands. It is an Albariño that arises from the complementarity of Condado do Tea and Val do Salnés, giving rise to a wine with a subtle and complex profile. This first vintage is not intended as the endpoint of the project, but as the beginning of a trajectory that will continue to develop with each plot, each harvest, and each new learning.
