The XIV Gastronomic Route "Destapa los Vélez" will be held over the four weekends of November across all the municipalities of the Los Vélez region (Almería), with a program based on traditional cuisine, local products, and the promotion of inland tourism.
This culinary route, driven by the Association of Businesspeople of the Los Vélez Region, began this Friday in Vélez-Blanco, where it will continue until Sunday, November 8, before moving to Chirivel on days 13, 14 and 15; to Vélez-Rubio on days 20, 21 and 22; and ending in María on days 27, 28 and 29 of November.
As the Almería Provincial Council has pointed out in an information note, the route will again feature the support and professional evaluation of chefs Juan Moreno and Tony García, who have highlighted the standard of hospitality in the area, the excellence of its products, and the distinctive character of its mountain gastronomy, as well as the authenticity and closeness of its people.
At the official presentation held at the Provincial Palace, Carlos Sánchez, the provincial deputy for Presidency and Promotion of the Province, has lauded this type of initiative, which "make the province and provide structure to the territory through culture, heritage and gastronomy, bringing the general public closer to a region with extraordinary potential".
At the same event, the central role that the Los Vélez region will take on during the month of November was also emphasized, since, in addition to the gastronomic route, Vélez-Rubio will be the setting for the institutional events of the Day of the Province on next November 15.
The president of the Association of Businesspeople of the Los Vélez Region, Agustín, has expressed his recognition for the involvement of the participating establishments. "It is they who make the real effort to offer complex, delicate proposals of a high level," he said.
Likewise, he has invited citizens and tourists to take advantage of the route to discover the territory’s tourism resources. "Los Vélez offer a unique cultural and environmental wealth, from the Sierra María-Los Vélez Natural Park and the natural monument of the Milenaria Juniper in Chirivel, to the Castillo de Vélez-Blanco or the Church of the Incarnation in Vélez-Rubio," he explained.
The event has the support of the Diputación de Almería, the Asociación para el Desarrollo Rural Adeso Vélez, the town councils of the four involved municipalities, the Confederación Empresarial de la Provincia de Almería (Asempal), Unicaja, Grupo Cooperativo Cajamar, and distribution companies in the area such as Jesús Cabrera.
