The agricultural training centers that depend on the Consellería do Medio Rural begin the 2026-2027 school year with a total of 614 enrolled persons, which represents an increase of 10% compared to the previous academic year.
This was highlighted this Friday by the conselleira do Medio Rural, María José Gómez, during a visit to the Centro de Formación e Experimentación Agraria (CFEA) Pedro Murias, in Ribadeo (Lugo), where she went to welcome the new students.
The regional official also emphasized that almost half of the registered persons are women. In the case of Pedro Murias, female students represent 50% of the enrollments, while in other centers, such as those in Guísamo or Sergude, their presence is even majority.
Among the new features of this school year is the start of the higher cycle of Gandaría e Asistencia en Sanidade Animal at the CFEA Pedro Murias; the launch of the course offer of Especialización e Floraría e Arte Floral in Guísamo; and the expansion of places in the Dual FP (intensive) of Gandaría e Asistencia Animal in Sergude.
Specifically, the CFEA Pedro Murias adds this 2026-2027 school year a total of 52 students, becoming the center with the highest increase in enrollments, recording a growth of over 70%.
Appearance on agricultural training
In parallel, in the Agriculture Commission of the Parliament, the director of the Axencia Galega da Calidade Alimentaria of the Consellería, Martín Alemparte, has appeared to analyze the situation of agricultural training in Galicia. In his speech, he pointed out the need to "improve territorial capillarity" starting in 2027, with the aim of achieving a "greater territorial implantation of continuous training."
At the same time, he insisted on the importance of "the sector itself valuing and demanding" these training programs. In this context, he highlighted recent initiatives such as the shepherd school created in Ourense, whose first promotion finished with 18 students out of 25 places, of which three contemplate the establishment of a sheep farming operation.
During the parliamentary debate, Secundino Fernández (BNG) criticized that the current offer is insufficient for the existing demand and described the situation as "deficient," considering that only 28% of the places are allocated to agro-livestock training.
For her part, Carmen Rodríguez Dacosta (PSdeG) has reproached the "few data" provided by the representative of the Xunta in his appearance and has missed "a real evaluation" of the ongoing training campaign.
In the opposite sense, Miguel Ángel Viso (PP) has defended that a "positive evolution" is observed in the enrollment figures, with around a hundred new places and centers that are increasing their demand, as happens with Pedro Murias himself.
