The Union Extremadura has sent a letter to the president of the Junta, María Guardiola, in which it requests that she reverse her intention to eliminate taxes such as the eco-tax applied to electric companies, understanding that these public resources could be directed to the agricultural sector, which is going through a situation of need and requires specific support.
In a press conference held this Tuesday in Mérida, the technical secretary of The Union Extremadura, Luis Cortés, criticized that the Junta "is going to forgive 147 million euros to multinational electric companies" while, as he emphasized, "these same companies are going to pay taxes in Catalonia of which 45 million go to the agricultural sector."
"Who does the Junta of Extremadura govern for? For the people of Extremadura or for the multinational electric companies?" Cortés questioned, who emphasizes that when the Extremaduran countryside goes to the regional government to request aid for problems arising from weather conditions or diseases affecting the livestock "it always" receives "the same response that the Junta of Extremadura does not have funds to approve these aids."
Likewise, he has considered that "It is unacceptable that Catalan farmers and ranchers have a series of aids to compensate professionals in the agricultural sector in improvement plans, drought aids in the wine and olive sectors, to the beekeeping sector, etc., and here no aid is approved due to lack of budgets," as stated in the press release issued by The Union Extremadura.
