The conselleira do Mar, Marta Villaverde, took part this Friday in Santiago in the closing event of the "Peregrinos del Mar" campaign, where she underlined the existing relationship between fishing activity, cuisine and the Xacobean tradition "as very close and deeply united elements".

The "Peregrinos del Mar" campaign took place between September 1 and October 30 through a gastronomic route through different localities of the Camino Francés, from Estella (Navarra) to Santiago de Compostela, with the aim of promoting the consumption of swordfish and blue shark.

The proposal, promoted by Interfish-España with the support of producers' organizations, received co-financing from the Xunta, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (FEMPA).

The regional head highlighted the participation of sea professionals, the commercial chain and the restaurant sector in this project, which for two months brought swordfish and blue shark closer to the pilgrims through different culinary preparations offered in hospitality venues located along the Camino Francés.
