The headquarters of the Parliament of Andalusia, located in the old Hospital de las Cinco Llagas in Seville, will display the flag of Ceuta on September 2 as a show of support and closeness in the full context of the crisis generated after the massive arrival of immigrants at the end of July.
According to parliamentary sources indicated this Wednesday to Europa Press, the president of the Andalusian Chamber, Ana Mestre (PP-A), will be in charge of raising the Ceuta flag early in the morning on Wednesday, September 2, a day that is a holiday in the autonomous city itself.
The same sources have pointed out that the president will inform the Permanent Deputation Board of this institutional gesture during the meeting that this body will hold on Thursday, August 27, in which the scope of the initiative will be detailed.
Last week, the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, traveled to Ceuta and held a meeting with its president, Juan Jesús Vivas (PP), to convey the "affection, support, and solidarity" of Andalusian society with the city and its inhabitants, after the "migration crisis" that this Spanish territory in North Africa is facing, as emphasized by the Andalusian Government.
The Statute of Autonomy of Andalusia establishes in its article 228 that the community "will maintain special relations of collaboration, cooperation, and assistance with the Autonomous Cities of Ceuta and Melilla," a framework in which this symbolic gesture of the autonomous Chamber is inscribed.
In an interview granted to Europa Press a week after the outbreak of the crisis in Ceuta, Ana Mestre reiterated her "solidarity" with the autonomous city and expressed hope that the involved executives "reach the necessary understanding that calms that social concern."
"I can only show my support for the Government of Ceuta. I undoubtedly stand in solidarity with the different situations being experienced, which are in many cases concerning and dramatic," stated the president of the Parliament in that conversation, also expressing her wish that "normality arrives as soon as possible" to this Spanish city.
