The spokesperson of Vox in Les Corts, José Mª Llanos, has reiterated that it would not make "sense" to promote new budgets for the Generalitat in what remains of the legislature, until the regional elections of 2027. Instead, he has defended "returning to normality" of approving the accounts in the Valencian parliament towards the end of the year, while the 'popular' Nieves Martínez has avoided "anticipating the circumstances" regarding this scenario.
Both leaders have spoken this way before the media this Tuesday in Les Corts. The plenary of the Valencian chamber gave the final approval on July 22 to the budgets of the Generalitat for 2026, the first prepared under the presidency of Juanfran Pérez Llorca and the first that incorporate by law the 'national priority' in an autonomous community. The total amount rises to 33.305 billion euros, which represents an increase of 3.1% compared to the accounts of 2025.
When asked about the convenience of approving new regional accounts for the next fiscal year, Llanos replied: "I wish God would rule it out. We approved as soon as we could some budgets because it is necessary when the economic year closes to address many needs for the well-being of the Valencians. That is why we approved those budgets, that is why we reached the budgetary pact and I believe it would not make sense."
In this line, he emphasized that "the ideal would be to return to normality" and that this "is not in three months" with budgets for 2027. He recalled that "we come from an exceptional situation that the dana caused us" and has asked for leeway "to return to normality," insisting on the need to execute the accounts of 2026 just approved "in their entirety." "We are going to fight for them to be applied this way and always for the benefit of the citizens," he emphasized.
On the other hand, when asked about the date of the General Policy Debate, the first that Pérez Llorca will face and the last of the legislature, Llanos pointed out that it should be held "soon, in two or three weeks," so it could fit between September 21 and 25. "It is the first thing in the new political course," he highlighted.
Vox rules out talking yet about candidacies
Regarding the meeting of the National Executive Committee of Vox held on Monday in San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Madrid), and whether candidacies for the next electoral cycle were discussed, Llanos responded: "No, honestly no. It is not the time." He explained that if Vox does not announce "so far in advance" its heads of list, it is because they believe they have a project "homogeneous, prosperous, and good for all Spaniards."
In this sense, he defended that what "matters the least at this moment is who represents it at one time or another," since "what is important is that whoever is there represents that project of well-being for all Spaniards."
The PP asks to wait for the General Policy Debate
From the PP, and in light of the possibility that the Consell presents new budgets, deputy spokesperson Nieves Martínez pointed out that raising this debate now is going "a bit fast," given that the new session period "is going to start soon."
Martínez explained that a draft with the upcoming plenaries will soon be available and considered that, before making a statement, "first we will have to listen to the 'president' of the Generalitat in that General Policy Debate, in which he will give us a bit of the lines for the upcoming session period."
Therefore, she rejected "anticipating the circumstances" and called for "landing on the real problems we have at our moment." In her opinion, "the main problem we have is Ceuta," referring to the migratory crisis that the autonomous city is experiencing.
Regarding the specific date of the General Policy Debate, the 'popular' leader indicated that the "draft" of the parliamentary calendar for the new session period has not yet been determined. She recalled that "on the 10th it starts" and advanced that "soon there will be a table and a board --of síndics-- where that draft will be finalized and the date will be approved."
