EH Bildu has reiterated this Tuesday its "most absolute rejection" of the incidents recorded this Monday in Bilbao and has warned that violence only benefits the "reactionary bloc." The coalition has insisted that "the response to fascism and the far-right must be developed exclusively through peaceful and democratic means."

In a public note, the sovereignist formation has once again expressed its "most absolute rejection of violent and antisocial behaviors that occurred after the conclusion of the mobilizations called in response to the presence of the far-right agitator Vito Quiles," who ultimately did not attend the Biscayan capital and suspended the planned event.

As it emphasizes, "EH Bildu does not share these actions, which harm coexistence and directly affect the well-being of the neighbors, merchants, and citizens in general." For this reason, it has conveyed its support and closeness "to all the affected people" by the serious incidents that occurred in the city.

The coalition has stressed: "We are antifascists, and precisely for that reason, we believe that the response to fascism and the far-right must be developed exclusively through peaceful and democratic means." In its view, "not any action carried out in the name of antifascism contributes to that objective," and it has warned that those that "lead to violence or vandalism end up favoring the interests of the reactionary bloc."

EH Bildu has highlighted that "the mobilizations held throughout yesterday constituted an example of democratic, plural, and collective response to hate speech. Hundreds of people participated in them, along with various social movements, in a response shared by broad sectors of society."

Democratic response and broad majorities

The formation has also recalled that decisions such as the suspension of academic activity by the University of Deusto joined that social response. In this line, it has emphasized that "the response to fascism involves building and adding broad democratic majorities, and confronting hate speech through social mobilization and the defense of democratic values."

For EH Bildu, "that is the path that a majority part of the Bilbao society has demonstrated to follow on numerous occasions." Therefore, it has once again expressed its rejection "of the lamentable actions of yesterday in Bilbo" and its solidarity "with all the people who have been affected by them."
