Madrid City Council has decided to reinforce security in the capital during the Halloween celebrations, deploying 1,700 officers on the holiday days and working in a coordinated manner with the National Police in view of the calls circulating about possible acts of vandalism planned for Friday and Saturday.

"There are some reports that say those calls may have been canceled, but evidently we cannot be certain that that will happen," the deputy mayor, delegate for Security and Emergencies of Madrid and municipal spokesperson, Inma Sanz, reported at the press conference following the Government Board meeting.

The special operation includes the presence of 920 additional municipal police officers to intensify surveillance in all the city’s cemeteries, in order to ensure mobility in the surrounding areas, organize access, reinforce the security of visitors, and curb illegal street vending in the vicinity. In the two large municipal cemeteries, La Almudena and Carabanchel, drones will be used as support for the control of the operation.
