Rains in Valencia and Alicante: areas with yellow warning and forecast for this afternoon

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) maintains this Saturday, October 31, yellow warnings for rain in the northern and southern coast of Valencia and in the northern coast of Alicante. The rainfall may reach 20 liters per square meter in one hour and the warnings will remain active until 18:00 hours. The instability will continue during the next few hours, although a gradual improvement is expected toward the night

The Comunitat Valenciana faces the last afternoon of October with rain and weather warnings in several points along its coast. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated the yellow warning for precipitation on the north and south coast of Valencia and on the north coast of Alicante, where showers may reach an intensity of 20 liters per square meter in just one hour. The forecast especially affects coastal areas and comes after several days of instability in the Mediterranean, which have kept emergency services on alert for the possibility of new intense rainfall.

The warnings will remain in force until 18:00 this Saturday, October 31, with an estimated probability of between 40% and 70% that the forecast precipitation will occur. Although the yellow level represents a low danger within AEMET's alert system, the authorities recommend paying attention to the evolution of the weather, especially in areas exposed to water accumulation. The forecast points to a gradual improvement during the last hours of the afternoon, with a decrease in the probability of rain from 19:00 onward in much of the coast.

Which areas of Valencia and Alicante are under a yellow warning for rain

AEMET has established three yellow warning zones in the Comunitat Valenciana for this Saturday. In the province of Valencia, the alert affects both the north coast, where the capital is located, and the south coast, which includes areas especially exposed to precipitation coming from the Mediterranean. In Alicante, the warning is concentrated on the north coast, while the rest of the province does not present the same level of alert in the bulletins consulted.

Specifically, the north coast of Valencia remains under yellow warning from 22:00 on Friday, October 30 until 18:00 on Saturday. On the Valencian south coast, the warning began at midnight and will also end, barring changes, at 18:00. For its part, the north coast of Alicante has the warning activated from 10:00 until 18:00. In the three areas, the possibility of accumulations of up to 20 liters per square meter in one hour is considered, with a probability of between 40% and 70%.

The situation especially affects coastal areas of Valencia and regions such as La Safor and the Marina Alta, where episodes of rain can intensify due to the entry of humid air from the sea. Nevertheless, the existence of a warning does not mean that all municipalities will record precipitation of the same intensity nor that the forecast accumulations will necessarily be reached.

Forecast for this afternoon in Valencia: rain until 18:00 and improvement at night

The province of Valencia concentrates much of the instability forecast for this Saturday, with cloudy skies and showers that may be weak or moderate and, occasionally, reach strong intensity. The AEMET forecast especially points to the southern coast as one of the areas where there is a greater possibility of intense precipitation, although the warning also extends to the northern coast.

During the last hours of the afternoon, the probability of rain in Valencia remains around 49% at 17:00 hours, before gradually decreasing. The forecast points to a reduction in precipitation starting at 18:00 and to clearing skies during the night, when the chances of rain will be notably lower. Temperatures will be around 17 and 18 degrees during the afternoon, with maximum values close to 20 or 22 degrees, depending on the area.

In the interior of Valencia, AEMET forecasts cloudy intervals and maximum temperatures in decline, although the probability of heavy rain will be lower than that of coastal areas. The wind will blow from the northeast at moderate strength on the coast, while in the rest of the territory light variable winds will predominate, with an easterly component during the afternoon.

Rain in Alicante: the north of the province concentrates the highest risk

In Alicante, attention is focused on the northern coast of the province, where AEMET has issued a yellow warning due to the possibility of locally heavy showers. The forecast indicates that rain may appear irregularly, with important differences between nearby municipalities, a usual circumstance when instability is related to the arrival of Mediterranean humidity.

For the city of Alicante, located outside the yellow warning zone of the northern coast, the forecast also contemplates showers during the last hours of the afternoon, with probabilities close to 49% between 17:00 and 18:00 hours. From 19:00 onward, the risk of precipitation will decrease significantly and intervals of clearer sky are expected during the night. Temperatures will fluctuate around 19 and 20 degrees during the afternoon, with a daily maximum close to 22 degrees.

Although the general forecast does not point to widespread heavy rain throughout the province, the showers could become more intense in areas of northern Alicante, especially during the period in which the warning is in force. The authorities recommend checking weather updates before traveling on secondary roads or in areas near ravines and channels that may quickly accumulate water.

Why it rains again in the Comunitat Valenciana

The new episode of precipitation is related to the entry of humid air coming from the Mediterranean and the presence of some instability in the upper layers of the atmosphere. A powerful anticyclone located over northern Europe is favoring the arrival of east-component winds, which carry moisture toward the Valencian coast and facilitate the formation of clouds and showers.

As explained by the head of Climatology of AEMET in the Comunitat Valenciana, José Ángel Núñez, this atmospheric configuration may remain for several days and cause new episodes of rain during the next week. However, the meteorologist has pointed out that the possible formation of a dana in the northern peninsula does not, by itself, constitute a favorable situation for torrential rains in Valencian territory.

The current forecast also does not point to an episode of the intensity of that recorded in mid-October with dana Adam, which caused red-level warnings in areas of Valencia and Alicante. The warnings in force this Saturday are yellow, so it is appropriate to distinguish between the possibility of intense showers and a storm of extraordinary risk, which would require different weather conditions and warnings.

What the weather will be like on Sunday, November 1, and during the All Saints' holiday weekend

Instability could extend during the first hours of Sunday, November 1, All Saints' Day, especially in the south of Valencia and the north of Alicante. AEMET contemplates the possibility of light or moderate precipitation during the early morning and first hours of the morning, although the trend will be for the rains to cease and the skies to open progressively.

The maximum temperatures will experience an increase, more pronounced in some areas of the interior and Valencian pre-coastal area, while the minimum temperatures could register a slight decrease. For Monday, November 2, cloudy intervals are expected and light precipitation is not ruled out in areas of the coast, although for the moment no weather warnings appear for that day in the provinces of Valencia and Alicante.

Looking ahead to Tuesday and Wednesday, AEMET maintains the possibility of new occasional showers in the Comunitat Valenciana, so the evolution of the anticyclone and atmospheric instability will be decisive in knowing the extent of the precipitation.

Meanwhile, the yellow warnings of this Saturday will remain active until 18:00 hours on the north and south coast of Valencia and in the north of Alicante. Emergency services recommend avoiding crossing flooded areas, exercising extreme caution while driving, and following AEMET updates, especially in the face of possible last-minute changes in the intensity or distribution of the rains.
