The president of the Real Federación Española de Atletismo (RFEA), Raúl Chapado, has lamented the death of Julieta Gallego, a Spanish athlete who died in the Urda railway accident, according to what has been published by ABC. The official has conveyed his sorrow over the loss of the athlete and has dedicated a few words to her loved ones.
"There are blows that hurt in the deepest part of the athletics family. Today sport mourns the passing of Julieta, a life ahead that is unjustly extinguished. Spanish athletics embraces the soul of Julieta and the immense pain of her family, her friends and her lifelong club. They are not alone in this void", Chapado has declared, according to the newspaper.
Gallego was born on October 9, 2002 and developed her sporting career in athletics, in the long jump discipline. At the Spanish Under-23 Indoor Championship held in Antequera on February 4 and 5, 2023, Gallego finished in fourth position in the women's long jump final, with a mark of 5.90 meters.
The Madrid Athletics Federation also included her in the report of the 2021 Madrid Under-23 Championship, in which she competed representing A.D. Sprint. In that long jump event, Julieta Gallego achieved a mark of 5.49 meters.
