The Government delegate in the Region of Murcia, Francisco Lucas, has sent a formal request to the regional president, Fernando López Miras, to hold a meeting to jointly analyze the situation of irregular immigration and coordinate the actions of both administrations.
According to the details provided by the Government Delegation in the Region of Murcia, Lucas has relied on the "institutional loyalty" invoked by López Miras in his letter to the president of the central Executive and has emphasized the convenience of sharing data and resources in order to combat the mafias dedicated to human trafficking and ensure care for migrants in vulnerable situations and minors.
"If your offer is sincere, we must hold a meeting to exchange information, analyze and assume our respective competencies," indicated the Government delegate, who insists on the need to clarify the role of each administration.
At the same time, Lucas has called to set aside "migration populism" and has stressed that the current scenario requires a "serious, coordinated, and effective" response from all the institutions involved.
In his assessment, he recalled that the arrival by sea of people in irregular situations "is not a new phenomenon" in the Region of Murcia, something he has linked to the geographical position of the Murcian coast in migration routes.
The Government delegate has thus framed the arrival of two boats in recent days and has stated that "in no case can it be interpreted as an emergency" nor as an exceptional episode, while highlighting the work carried out by the State Security Forces and Corps.
Lucas has specified that the agents have located the people who arrived on the coast, have guaranteed their medical assistance through the Red Cross, and have initiated the procedures provided for in the current protocols.
Likewise, he has highlighted the reinforcement of the staff and material means of the State Security Forces and Corps in the Region over the last eight years, although he has warned that the mafias "have sophisticated their methods."
Finally, the Government delegate has reiterated his willingness to meet "immediately" with López Miras to consolidate a common strategy and has advocated for addressing the migration phenomenon from a comprehensive approach, understanding that its causes and characteristics are "multifactorial."
