The mayor of Donostia-San Sebastián, Jon Insausti, has once again criticized the "lack of support" that, he claims, he is receiving from several municipalities in Gipuzkoa after the City Council decided to prohibit the distribution of solidarity dinners in public spaces. The mayor demands that these councils "meet the minimum requirements set by the law" of Social Services of the Basque Country.
In an interview on Euskadi Irratia, reported by Europa Press, Insausti emphasized that attention to people in street situations or in poverty "is not just a challenge for Donostia, but a challenge for the surrounding municipalities," and lamented that "I have not received any help from them." In his opinion, "let's meet the minimums required by law. In other municipalities, the minimums required by law regarding meals or accommodation are not met," which is why he defended the ban on solidarity dinners in the street and stated that, "when we meet these minimums, the situation will improve a little."
