The mother of the 20-year-old young man shot dead by mistake in Málaga has reiterated that she will fight "for justice to be done" and has demanded that responsibilities be clarified "not only for the murderers" but also for the public authorities. In addition, she has called for a reinforcement of resources from the different administrations to combat this type of violence. "What happened to my son cannot be treated as just any case," she pointed out, urging a collective reflection to understand "how we have come to create a city where murders are starting to become a daily occurrence."
"We are talking about a boy of only 20 years old, murdered by hitmen, having absolutely nothing to do with that horrible world of crime," recalls Nacho's mother in a letter released when a month has passed since the crime. For these events, three men are detained and in provisional prison who, according to the investigation, confused him with a threat and shot him while he was sitting on a bench in the street, in the Barcenillas area.
She recounts that the hitmen "believed he belonged to another gang and that he was carrying a weapon in his bandolier." In reality, he was carrying "several resumes, personal belongings, and an adrenaline pen, which always accompanied him because he suffered from a severe food allergy. That is what he was carrying," she specifies in the letter, which Europa Press has had access to. "I will fight for justice to be done, although at this moment it does not comfort me, because nothing will bring him back to life," she emphasizes.
In her opinion, "drug trafficking and organized mafias are not going to disappear, they are transforming," which is why she demands "that political leaders, administrations, and the judiciary reinforce, within their respective competencies, all necessary means to confront this situation."
The mother considers a "deep analysis of what is happening in our city" essential. She asks: "I want to know why one of the alleged murderers of my son, who had previously been arrested for an attempted homicide, was not imprisoned. I demand that the circumstances and decisions that made that situation possible be explained."
She insists that "I want to know how we have come to create a city where murders are starting to become a daily occurrence" and demands "responsibilities, not only from the murderers of my son but also from all the powers of the State, each in the scope of their competencies."
In her reflection, she warns that "Málaga is dying of success and one of the problems of the city's management is that the proliferation of tourist apartments and the lack of control can facilitate that the hitmen of drug trafficking mafias find places to hide." "I am convinced that something like this could have been avoided with more responsible management," she adds.
She also denounces that "a voracious speculation and an absolute lack of control in the growth of our city has been allowed, without any kind of limits or balance." For this reason, she demands a profound change in the way urban planning and security are managed.
The mother also pleads that "political gain should not be taken nor should the morbidness of what happened be encouraged, because all of this adds more pain to my suffering" and asks that "this terrible tragedy should not be used to promote racism or hatred."
In this sense, she warns that "focusing on the origin or the skin color of their murderers would be a tremendous mistake. That is what simple minds do, afraid of the different. They are murderers, period. They are not people from other countries who come to seek a better life, they are hitmen who care little about the lives of others and who kill for money."
About Nacho, she highlights that he was "a noble, good, educated, affectionate, smart boy, a lover of animals and music" and that he was looking for a new job while waiting for the admission lists of a vocational degree. "He was always very hardworking and had several jobs to be more independent," says the mother, who laments that "some murderers have cut short his dreams."
She emphasizes that her son was "very happy in his 20 years of life and has always been surrounded by love, the same love that he returned abundantly" and remembers other families who have gone "through something as horrible as the death of a child, but who have not had the means or support to make surviving this horror a little less unbearable."
She thanks the support of her loved ones and "the wonderful friends of Nacho"; as well as the police units that have conducted the investigation "quickly and who have treated me with exquisite kindness and delicacy." She extends her recognition to those who assisted her son at the scene, to public health, and, in particular, to the healthcare personnel who tried "until the last moment to keep him alive."
He also dedicates a few words to his female and male coworkers, to Comisiones Obreras de Málaga "for continuing with a claim that my son initiated in life"; to the staff of Parcemasa, to the CAMM, "where he studied music and was very happy" and "to all the good people of Málaga who have worried about me and who have paid tribute to my little great Nacho".
At the same time, he denounces the "horrible comments, with a deep malice and an absolute ignorance of the great boy that my little one was, without knowing absolutely anything about the police investigation" and requests that anyone who comes across a video of his son mortally wounded on social media "report its dissemination and not contribute to continuing to spread it".
In this line, he thanks the Audiovisual Council of Andalucía, the Professional Association of Journalists of Andalucía, the Press Association of Málaga, the Professional Council of RTVA, and the Audience Defender of RTVE "for their firmness against the dissemination of said video on some television channels" and to his family for the complaints filed.
Finally, he appeals to the individual responsibility of each person "in relation to speculation, the consumption of social media, television, and sensationalist press". And he concludes with a collective call: "Let’s make our city a kinder place. Let’s make our city a place where we can all live together in peace".
