The spokesperson for the Socialist Parliamentary Group in the Regional Assembly of Murcia, Carmina Fernández, emphasized this Thursday that "it is false that there is migratory chaos in the Region of Murcia" and criticized that the Popular Party and the regional president, Fernando López Miras, are using images of the arrival of a boat at Cala del Barco, in Cartagena, to "generate a sense of fear and insecurity that does not correspond to reality."

According to Fernández, "it is regrettable that the PP uses the arrival of migrants at a beach in Cartagena to feed an image of insecurity and lack of control that the data and the actions of the Civil Guard and the National Police contradict," and she accused the Popular Party "of taking advantage of an exceptional situation and striking images to convey a sense of migratory chaos that does not exist in the Region," as pointed out by the party.

The socialist leader denounced that "nothing worse can be expected from López Miras and the PP of the Region of Murcia. He has turned migratory policy into another partisan battleground, instead of contributing to finding solutions and strengthening coordination between administrations."

Fernández considered it "perfectly logical" that bathers were unsettled by the arrival of the boat, but reproached the PP for using those images "to make people believe that our coasts are unprotected or that the Security Forces lack resources."

Regarding the latest episode, she detailed that the 62 people who arrived the previous day were located by the Civil Guard, attended to, and subsequently placed at the disposal of the National Police, which is applying the protocols provided for by law, including expulsion proceedings when appropriate. "Therefore, we are not facing a problem of abandonment or lack of resources, no matter how much the PP tries to repeat it," she emphasized.

The socialist spokesperson explained that networks dedicated to human trafficking are increasingly resorting to very fast and powerful boats, capable of approaching the coast, disembarking in a few minutes, and returning immediately to open sea.

He indicated that "surveillance systems allow detecting and controlling these routes, but physically preventing any fast vessel from reaching any point of the hundreds of kilometers of coastline is extraordinarily complex. The important thing is that the Security Forces act, locate the people who arrive, and, above all, pursue the criminal organizations that are behind these operations."

Fernández has defended the work of the National Police and the Civil Guard, in coordination with Europol, in dismantling networks of irregular immigration and has reproached the PP for questioning that work. He has recalled that in recent weeks there have been arrests in the Region and has accused the popular party of generating "alarm" while the Security Forces continue investigating and dismantling these plots.

The spokesperson has emphasized that these irregular arrivals "have been occurring for years, especially during certain periods, and the State Security Forces carry out exceptional work to address them. If the PP has any doubts, they should look at the statistics and police operations instead of trying to scare the population," he stated.

Controversy over the request for appearance in the Assembly

In the parliamentary sphere, the socialist representative has labeled as "ridiculous" that the PP insists on requesting the appearance of the Government delegate before the Regional Assembly.

He has recalled that "they know perfectly well that the Regional Assembly does not have the authority to oversee the Government delegate or the bodies of the Government of Spain. They know it, but they bring it up again because they are not looking for explanations: they are looking for controversy," he concluded.
