Assistance for the Urda accident has its application period open since November 6. Transportes allows them to be processed online or in person and has set up offices to accompany the affected people during the procedure. Those who cannot travel due to health or mobility reasons may receive assistance at their home.
The system distinguishes two concepts that it is advisable to identify before filling out the form: a non-refundable direct aid and an advance on the future compensation for civil liability. For each deceased person, the direct aid amounts to 72,121.46 euros; the advance may reach that same amount. For the injured, the amount depends on the category of the injuries.
Access to the procedure, the forms, and the explanatory documents are gathered in the electronic headquarters of Transportes for the Urda accident aid.
Until when can the aid be requested
The deadline announced by Transportes runs from November 6, 2026 to February 5, 2027. It is the period for submitting the application, not a date for receiving the money.
The Administration provides for extensions for justified reasons. Anyone who needs one must request it before the deadline expires, explain the reasons, and address it to the Directorate General of Road Transport and Railways. The resolution limits that extension to half of the initial period.
**A request for an extension does not mean it should be considered granted by default. While there is no applicable decision for the case file, the reference date remains February 5.
Who can request them: travelers, workers, and family members
The aid covers the injured people who were traveling on the trains involved in the accident, including travelers, train drivers, trainees, and onboard staff.
In the event of death, certain family members may apply. The rule includes the spouse not legally separated or partner who meets the cohabitation conditions, the children, and, in the situations provided for, the partner’s children. In the absence of those beneficiaries, it establishes an order for parents, grandparents, and siblings.
Kinship and the concurrence of beneficiaries determine the distribution. The 72,121.46 euros are set per deceased person, not for each family member who submits an application.
How much money corresponds for death or injuries
Upon death, the total of direct aid and advance payment can reach 144.242,92 euros, provided that both concepts are requested and recognized.
For injuries, the direct aid ranges from 2.404,04 to 84.141,70 euros, depending on the recognized category. The advance payment may have the same amount, so the sum of the two modalities ranges between 4.808,08 and 168.283,40 euros.
These amounts are not a uniform rate for all those affected. Nor do they equal the final compensation that may be determined for civil liability.

The intermediate categories have their own amounts.
The advance must be requested and is subject to its requirements.
In the event of death, the amount is distributed among the beneficiaries
in accordance with the regulations: it is not paid in full to each family member.

How to apply for aid online
The official Transportes page brings together the options “Start procedure”, “Status inquiry”, and “Correct or attach documentation”. It also publishes the application form and another one intended to identify the deceased person when applicable.
To prepare the submission:
- 1. Access the official procedure, linked at the beginning of this guide.
- 2. Review the forms and instructions to identify the applicable case: injuries or death.
- 3. Indicate whether you are also requesting the advance, in addition to the direct aid.
- 4. Complete the details and provide the documentation required for your case.
- 5. Review, submit, and keep the registration receipt.
Saving a copy allows you to later check what was requested and which documents were provided. The inquiry into the case file and the provision of additional documentation are carried out through the same procedure of the electronic office.
What document do you need if you have suffered injuries
The determining document is the assessment of the Compulsory Insurance for Travelers, with the category of the injuries. Hospital or medical center reports do not replace that assessment in the aid application file.
Clinical documentation must be sent to the insurer in charge of the insurance so that it issues the corresponding report. The official information refers to the channels of the Compulsory Insurance for Travelers of the company with which the affected person was traveling:
- Renfe Travelers’ Insurance information
- Compulsory Travelers’ Insurance for Iryo]
This distinction prevents you from submitting documentation that does not allow the amount of the aid to be determined on its own.
Can the application be submitted if the assessment is still missing?
Yes, when the report is not available for reasons beyond the applicant’s control, that situation must be explained along with the application. The official guide provides for suspending the maximum resolution period until the documentation is provided.
If a later final assessment modifies the one initially submitted, complementary rulings are also considered once the new report has been delivered.
The Administration will, where possible, verify the condition of victim ex officio. If it cannot verify it, it may require the ticket or other valid proof that the person was traveling on the train; for rail staff, documentation about their connection and their presence on board.
What is the difference between the aid and the advance
Direct assistance addresses the consequences of the accident and is non-refundable. The advance brings forward part of the compensation for civil liability that may be recognized afterwards.
The advance must be requested expressly. According to official frequently asked questions, it does not apply in the same terms if civil liability compensation equal to or greater than the amount that would correspond has already been received, or if the right to repair or compensation has been expressly waived.
The State assumes the right to claim up to the amount advanced. If the final compensation is higher, the beneficiary receives the difference; if it is lower, the rule establishes that they will not have to return the excess advance.
Therefore, when comparing amounts, you must separate the assistance, the advance, and the rest of the compensations. Adding them as if all were independent additional payments can produce an incorrect figure.
The Compulsory Travel Insurance is processed through another channel
The application to Transportes does not replace the Compulsory Travel Insurance claim, which must be directed to the corresponding insurer.
The Government’s information distinguishes that coverage from the two state modalities. In the event of death, it mentions up to 216.364,38 euros when adding direct assistance, advance, and Compulsory Travel Insurance. That sum brings together different concepts and does not mean that Transportes pays the entire amount through a single form.
Where to request in-person help and home assistance
Affected people may go to the Integral Care Offices set up in the Delegations and Subdelegations of the Government and the Insular Directorates of the autonomous communities where victims reside.
These offices help fill out the forms, obtain documentation, and carry out the procedures. The Transportes headquarters includes a phone directory to locate the care points.
Those who cannot travel due to health or mobility may receive care at their home, anywhere in Spain, through the program La Administración cerca de ti. This assistance allows the procedure to be prepared without the trip becoming a barrier to requesting the aid.
When it is paid and what happens if any document is missing
There is no common payment date for all beneficiaries. The rule allows partial resolutions, so it is not necessary to wait for all applications to be closed in order to grant aid.
The maximum period for notifying the grant is six months from the day following the end of the application period, without prejudice to the suspensions provided for. Payment is made after the grant has been notified.
If documentation needs to be corrected, the provided period is ten business days.
The application may be submitted in person or through a representative. When the Administration cannot consult a piece of information, or the interested party objects to that consultation, the corresponding supporting documentation must be provided. The file may continue, but it will be necessary to complete those checks.
