The identification work of the victims of the Urda train accident, in Toledo, has made it possible to confirm the identity of 56 of the 69 deceased people. The provisional death toll remains unchanged, while efforts continue to identify the remaining 13.
This is reported by the media with data from the Integrated Data Center (CID). The remains of 36 victims are already at the disposal of their families.
The 13 pending identifications require international cooperation
Among the 56 identified people are 54 of Spanish nationality and two foreign citizens: one French and one Portuguese.
According to the published information, the 13 victims whose identification has still not been completed are foreign. The pending efforts are being carried out within the framework of international cooperation.
The forecast is that the work may advance in the next few hours, although no definitive deadline is offered to complete all the identifications.
The remains of 36 deceased, at the disposal of their families
The update distinguishes between the identified victims and those whose remains are already at the disposal of their relatives. The first figure amounts to 56; the second, to 36.
Therefore, it should not be interpreted that all the identified people have been handed over to their families. Nor that the remains made available to the relatives have necessarily been collected.
The progress of these efforts allows families to continue with the procedures following the death, while others still await the completion of the identification process.
The work is being carried out in Toledo and Ciudad Real
The tasks are being carried out at the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Toledo and Ciudad Real. The information comes from the Integrated Data Center established after the activation of the national protocol for forensic-medical and Scientific Police action in incidents with multiple victims.
This latest balance records advances in identification, but keeps the provisional number of deceased people at 69. The 13 pending identifications are part of that total and do not represent additional victims.
