The Minister of Finance, Arcadi España, has emphasized that, since Pedro Sánchez came to Government, Social Security membership has increased by 3.7 million people. He also stressed that there is currently a record number of women and men in employment, a situation that, in his view, "translates into more well-being".
"In Spain, today there are more women and men working than ever before and that translates into more well-being. We continue working," the person in charge of Finance said in a message shared on the social network 'X' and taken up by Europa Press.
According to the data released this Wednesday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, in October Social Security added an average of 186,612 registered members compared with September (+0.8%), the largest increase in an October month across the entire time series. This advance is explained mainly by the start of the school year and the process of regularizing immigrant people. With this boost, the average number of registered members at the end of the month reached a new high of 22,624,165 employed persons.
Compared with the same month of the previous year, from October 2025 to October 2026, the system has added 784,573 more registered members in average terms, which represents year-on-year growth of 3.59% and an acceleration in the pace of job creation. If 2018 is taken as a reference, average membership adds a cumulative increase of more than 3.63 million employed persons (3.631.092).
In the seasonally adjusted series, the total of contributors recorded in October a monthly increase of 90,309 registered members, placing the number of workers adjusted for seasonality at a new high of 22,571,105 people. With this increase, the seasonally adjusted series already links 69 consecutive months of rises.
On the other hand, registered unemployment at offices of public employment services increased by 43,128 people in October compared with the previous month (+1.8%), a rebound linked above all to the services sector, which added almost 27,000 new unemployed people after the end of the summer campaign, according to the data published this Wednesday by the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy.
