The head of Industrial Policy of CCOO Galicia, Víctor Ledo, has demanded this Monday the construction of a covered dock at Navantia Ferrol with the aim of strengthening the competitiveness of the shipyard in the international market. This infrastructure would serve to complement the investment already made in the Digital Block Factory, currently operational, which allows reducing pre-launch work by around 25%.
Ledo emphasized that the effect on employment of this new dock would be "as much or more" than that expected with the arrival of the multinational SAIC at the outer port, which is why he demanded "that there be the same institutional collaboration on this matter."
In this line, he announced that they will initiate contacts with all political and institutional leaders, as well as with the heads of the lists for the upcoming municipal elections, to request a public position in favor of this demand.
In the appearance, the secretary of Industrial Policy was accompanied by the coordinator of the union section of CCOO at Navantia Ferrol, Iván López. Both stressed that it is "unacceptable" that the covered dock does not appear in the strategic plan presented by the company. In addition, they pointed out other shortcomings, such as the absence of a future project for the Fene shipyard, currently without work load, or the lack of a "clear commitment" to employment and new hires in the shipyards of the estuary.
López also denounced that a situation of discrimination is occurring, as the strategic plan contemplates an increase in staff of 33% in the bay of Cádiz, 41% in the center of Cartagena, and less than 20% in Ferrol.
