Enaire has reached in July two operational milestones by managing the highest monthly volume of flights in its history, with 257,909 operations, which represents an increase of 5.5% compared to the same month in 2025, while reducing delays associated with air traffic management by 20.8% compared to the previous year.
The entity links these results to the implementation of more than 70 actions included in its Summer Plan 2026-2027, integrated into the Flight Plan 2030, to the reinforcement of the staff with 79 new air traffic controllers compared to 2025, and to the work carried out by its professional team.
Throughout July, the daily maximum of flights recorded in 2025, with 8,103 operations, was exceeded on 30 days. The peak of the month occurred on July 25, when 8,459 flights were managed, a figure that was surpassed again on August 1 with 8,548 operations.
By type of operation, in July, 155,895 international flights were counted, 6.4% more; national flights totaled 45,621, with an increase of 4.4%; and overflights —those without origin or destination at Spanish airports— reached 56,393, 4.2% more.
Regarding control centers, Barcelona led traffic in July with 134,703 flights, 6.2% more; Madrid managed 129,860 operations, with an increase of 5.1%; Seville processed 56,864 flights, 5.8% more; Palma reached 54,908, with an increase of 5.7%; and the Canary Islands totaled 37,063, 3.1% more.
2026 Balance and Comparison with Europe
Between January and July 2026, Enaire has managed 1,470,821 flights, which represents a growth of 4.2% compared to 2025 and 18.7% compared to 2019, the reference year prior to the pandemic.
During that period, international flights increased by 4.9%, reaching 855,050; overflights advanced by 4.2%, reaching 338,832; and national flights grew by 2.1%, reaching 276,939. By control centers so far this year, Seville records an increase of 6.2%, with 345,780 operations; Barcelona, 4.5%, with 702,105; Madrid, 4.1%, with 801,048; Palma, also 4.1%, with 224,632; and the Canary Islands, 1.5%, with 253,305 flights.
The evolution of Spanish airspace is again above the European average. The increase in traffic accumulated until July in Spain improves by 2.7 points the average of the continent compared to 2025, which grows by 1.5%, and exceeds by 18.3 points the figure of 2019, when Europe barely advances by 0.4% compared to the 18.7% in Spain.
While traffic in Spain clearly exceeds the levels of 2019, other major European markets remain below in the first seven months of the year, as is the case in the United Kingdom, with a decrease of 1%, or in Germany, with a drop of 8%.
Summer Plan to absorb the increase in traffic
The planning included in the Summer Plan 2026-2027 has made it possible to face the increase in air traffic with higher levels of efficiency, thanks to the reinforcement of the operational capacity of the system and the improvement of the network's performance.
The Summer Plan includes more than 70 measures, among them those aimed at the optimization and redesign of routes, as well as those aimed at better utilizing the capacity of airspace through new flow management tools.
The program also contemplates actions to adjust capacity and demand for flights and a reinforcement of personnel in all air navigation regions, with 79 additional controllers compared to the 2025 workforce.
In the period 2024-2025, Enaire has also carried out two calls with a total of 307 new air traffic controllers, who will join the staffing reinforcements planned in the Flight Plan 2030.
