Spending on fashion in Spain has experienced an advance of 1.4% between January and June compared to the previous year in terms of billing, accompanied by a 1% increase in the number of garments sold, thus breaking with the "negative dynamic" that was observed in the same period of the previous year.
The figures come from the Fashion Consumption Barometer of the Catalan Fashion Cluster (Modacc) and Worldpanel by Numerator, corresponding to the first half of the year. This report confirms "a change in trend after a 2025 in which the market had closed with declines both in volume and in value," as detailed by the entity in a note released this Tuesday.
Within the analyzed categories, swimwear is the one that shows the most outstanding behavior, driven by the advance of high temperatures, with a year-on-year increase of 12.7% in value. For its part, children's fashion registers a year-on-year increase of 1.5% and "begins to leave behind the contracting trend that it had been dragging since 2023."
The executive director of Modacc, David García, has pointed out that the evolution of the market has been heavily conditioned by the weather and geopolitical uncertainty, factors that have caused "a first semester of ups and downs in fashion consumption," in a context in which households have still not fully recovered their spending capacity.
García has added that, in this scenario, the sector "is once again betting a good part of the year's result on the last quarter, coinciding with the main commercial campaigns," concentrating in those months a decisive part of the annual billing.
