Finnair obtained a net profit of 108.3 million euros between January and September, leaving behind the losses of 7.9 million euros recorded in the same period of the previous year. This turnaround is supported by a positive third quarter, driven by the increase in revenue (+14.2%) and the number of passengers (+7%), despite the impact of 18 million euros resulting from the strike.
In a statement, the Finnish airline explained that its revenue advanced by 14.3% in the first nine months of the year, reaching 2.648 billion euros. In that same period, it transported 9.6 million passengers (+7.3%), with a load factor that rose by 3.2 percentage points, reaching 80%.
Regarding the third quarter, the CEO, Turkka Kuusisto, emphasized that the increase in net sales and results was supported by "steady" and "strong" demand, as the appetite for travel continued to grow despite the uncertainties that persist in the market.
In relation to fuel, the top executive noted that hedging strategies have helped strengthen profitability and provide greater visibility to costs, in a context where "the price of aviation fuel has remained high due to ongoing geopolitical uncertainty."
"While the demand for flights has remained strong so far, the high price of fuel and the uncertainty related to its evolution, inflation, and interest rates complicate the future operating environment. Our average hedging ratio for 2027 currently stands at 34%," Kuusisto warned.
Looking to 2026, and as recently communicated, Finnair now estimates that its sales will range between 3.5 billion and 3.6 billion euros, above the previous forecast, which placed them between 3.4 billion and 3.5 billion euros.
In parallel, the company expects its operating result to reach between 175 and 220 million euros, which represents an improvement over the previous range, set between 120 and 190 million euros.
