Foreign direct investment registered in Spain stood at 12.446 billion euros during the first half of 2026, which represents an increase of 31.2% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the updated figures in the Foreign Investment Registry Datainvex of the Secretary of State for Commerce.
"It is a clear signal of confidence in our economy, in our productive fabric, and in the opportunities that Spain offers," highlighted the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Business.
The United States continues to lead the ranking as the top investing country, concentrating 23% of the total volume. Gross investment from the U.S. also skyrocketed by 84% compared to the first half of 2025. "The strength of U.S. investment confirms the interest that Spain continues to awaken among large companies and international funds," emphasized the Executive.
The department led by Carlos Cuerpo also underscores the good performance of 'greenfield' investment, linked to the launch of new initiatives and the creation of productive capacity, which rises above 52%.
In the first six months of 2026, nearly one in three euros of foreign direct investment was channeled towards 'greenfield' projects —green investment from scratch— and 'brownfield' —on a pre-existing facility—, reaching 30.5% of the total.
The data from the fDi Markets database also reveals that in the first 7 months of 2026, Spain ranks as the fourth country in the world attracting the most foreign investment projects, only surpassed by the United States, the United Kingdom, and India.
"It is a particularly relevant figure because it reflects Spain's ability to attract productive investment and projects that contribute to strengthening our business fabric and our position in international value chains," the Ministry has pointed out.
