The Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda has initiated the hearing and public information procedure for the National Strategy for Architecture 2026-2030, a process that will be available until 30 November through the department’s electronic headquarters.

The Strategy, whose full text can be consulted on that electronic headquarters, is configured as a planning and governance tool aimed at putting into practice the principles established in Law 9/2022 on Architectural Quality.

With this framework for action, the aim is to place architecture and the built environment at the center of policies to improve citizens’ quality of life, strengthen territorial cohesion, and promote an environmentally sustainable development model. In this way, the Strategy seeks to advance the quality of inhabited spaces and consolidate architecture as a general-interest asset.

The opening of the hearing and public information period provides an opportunity for citizens to participate in defining the lines of action and the priorities of this roadmap. The process is also aimed at other key stakeholders, such as regional and local administrations, universities, professional associations, and various institutions and reference entities in the sector.

Strategic categories and lines of action

The National Strategy for Architecture 2026-2030 is structured around two major categories: on the one hand, the major challenges for society and, on the other, a series of specific, operational challenges.

To address these challenges, the document sets out eight lines of action: dissemination, training and recognition of Spanish architecture; access to housing; sustainability, energy efficiency and renovation of the built stock; promoting innovation, digitization and industrialization; quality in public procurement; the people who live in the built environment and health; territorial dimension; and protection and conservation of architectural heritage.

Within the framework of each of these lines of action, 54 specific measures to be developed are considered, among which 12 “lever” measures are distinguished, which will have a priority role in implementing the Strategy through the corresponding action plans.
