The prices of the industry registered in September a rebound of 18.3% compared to the same month of 2025, an increase 5.1 points higher than that of August and the most intense since November 2022, driven by the rise in energy costs, according to data released this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
With the year-on-year variation of the ninth month of 2026, in which the effects of the war in Iran are once again appreciated, inflation in the industrial sector has already accumulated seven consecutive months of advances.
The rebound of industrial inflation in September is mainly explained by the behavior of energy prices, which raised their annual rate by 16.3 points, up to 49.8%, the highest record since October 2022. This jump responds to the strong increase in the costs of production, transportation, and distribution of electricity and, to a lesser extent, to the rise in the activities of oil refining.
For its part, intermediate goods increased five tenths their year-on-year rate, up to 7.5%, due to the rise in prices in the manufacturing of products intended for animal feed; to the forging, stamping, and molding of metals, and to the manufacturing of paper pulp, paper, and cardboard.
If energy is excluded, industrial prices raised their year-on-year rate by two tenths, up to 3.6%, so they remain 14.7 points below the general index.
In monthly terms (September compared to August), industrial inflation advanced by 4%, after the production and distribution of electricity increased by 10.8% and oil refining rose by 13.3%.
