The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Colombia recorded in July an annual rate of 6.03%, below the 6.14% noted in June and the 4.90% observed a year earlier, according to data released by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE).
In monthly terms, inflation in July advanced by 0.17%, which represents 22 hundredths less than in the previous month. However, in the accumulated total for the first seven months of 2026, the CPI increased by 4.94%, that is, 17 hundredths more.
The behavior of the CPI in July was marked, above all, by the evolution of the chapters on housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, as well as by that of restaurants and hotels, which had a significant weight in the variation of the index.
The largest monthly increases were recorded, precisely, in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (0.55%); health (0.38%); and clothing and footwear (0.31%).
On the contrary, transportation costs fell by -0.24%, followed by those of food and non-alcoholic beverages and those of leisure and culture (both -0.13%), in addition to various goods and services, which decreased by -0.11%.
Regarding the year-on-year behavior, the largest increases corresponded to restaurants and hotels (6.75%); food and non-alcoholic beverages (6.41%); and education (5.90%). In contrast, the categories of clothing and footwear (2.71%); leisure and culture (2.80%); and telecommunications (3.26%) showed more moderate variations.
