Movistar, the commercial brand of Telefónica, has begun enabling VoLTE and 5G SA ("stand alone") technologies for its prepaid customers, extending advanced services to these lines that enhance both the clarity of calls and the quality of mobile browsing.

VoLTE ("Voice over LTE") is a solution that makes it possible to make high-definition voice calls over 4G and 5G networks, with an almost immediate connection and the option to continue browsing the Internet at maximum speed while the conversation is maintained.

The deployment of these functionalities is carried out automatically for current users and for new sign-ups, so no additional procedures are necessary; it is enough to have a compatible device.

The B2C Marketing director of Telefónica España, Laura Otero, has emphasized that the arrival of VoLTE calls and 5G SA to prepaid lines demonstrates the teleco's commitment to being the best access route for citizens to digital technologies, "offering more and better services, backed by the best network".

VoLTE calls, carried over the 4G and 5G network, provide clearer and more natural voice, cut the time needed to establish the communication and allow you to keep browsing at good speed during the call, in addition to facilitating access to wifi calls.

For its part, browsing with 5G SA increases the speed, stability and responsiveness of the connection, especially in environments with heavy traffic or high data consumption. In this way, customers enjoy an optimized experience when using videos, video calls, online games or cloud services, among other uses.

Evolution of prepaid on Movistar

The prepaid modality at Movistar has a long history that goes back to May 1996, when the Telefónica group company transformed the Spanish market with the launch of its first digital prepaid card.

Since that key moment, which facilitated massive access to mobile telephony, prepaid has gone from being a basic connectivity option to consolidating itself as a high-speed alternative, tailored to the current needs of users and with the same network quality, coverage and speed enjoyed by contract customers.

With the arrival of VoLTE calls and 5G SA to the prepaid segment, Movistar gives a new boost to the evolution of this service.
