Movistar has marked a new milestone with "Llamadas Spam", the functionality launched last March to protect users against unwanted calls, by reaching 1.2 million lines with the blocking activated proactively by the customer themselves.

In this way, the service has become the offering with the fastest adoption ever recorded in Telefónica's commercial brand, a figure that highlights users' growing concern about this type of interruption and the need to strengthen their security.

With "Llamadas Spam", Movistar identifies and notifies on the customer's device by default those communications that may be considered unwanted, such as "spam", calls with "spam" patterns or flagged by other customers, issuing a warning on the screen.

In addition, the customer has the option to activate the total blocking of these communications through the Mi Movistar app, the telephone channel and the stores, so that these calls do not reach their mobile phone.

Since the launch of the service last March 16 of this year, the company has identified 166 million "spam" calls and has blocked more than millions at the request of the customer who has activated said blocking to prevent them from ringing on the handset.

Telefónica Spain's B2C director, Laura Otero, has underlined that, thanks to a clear digital protection strategy, they continue strengthening the security of their customers at no additional cost and without the need for installation.

Otero has added that the activation of the service on 1.2 million lines in just seven months reaffirms the operator's commitment to being "the best way" for citizens to access digital technologies, offering the best network and services in constant improvement.

This initiative allows users to gain in peace of mind, confidence and digital protection in the everyday use of mobile telephony.

Finally, "Llamadas Spam" joins the measures that Telefónica has applied since March 2025 to block malicious fraudulent calls in the network with false or manipulated numbering, in line with Ministerial Order TDF/149/2025.

In this regard, Telefónica has been the pioneering operator in implementing these measures against identity spoofing, having blocked since the entry into force of the regulation more than 241 million voice calls and more than 28 million fraudulent SMS.

It is preparing a new tool to filter suspicious SMS

Telefónica has become the first operator in Spain to activate a free shield against telephone fraud for its users.

According to sources consulted by Europa Press, the company is responsible for more than 60% of the blocking of fraudulent calls in the country --it even reached 97% as it was the pioneering operator in applying the regulations-- and adds more than 241 million calls stopped since March 2025, leading this effort far above its market share.

At the same time, the "Spam Calls" function has established itself as the service with the fastest adoption in the history of Movistar, with 1.2 million lines with the blocking activated.

Since March 2026, the operator has identified 166 million "spam" calls and has blocked 15 million.

In a single day, out of about 40 million calls analyzed, the network stops 1.1 million for fraud and detects 550,000 "spam", of which it directly blocks more than 80,000.

As for messaging, after applying the blocking of fraudulent SMS required by the Government, the company is preparing a new tool to detect suspicious SMS anonymously, for which it is already collecting customers' consent and which will be available in the coming months.
