The Ibex 35 of the Madrid Stock Exchange started the session this Monday with an advance of 0.66%, surpassing again the threshold of 19,600 points and placing itself at 19,642.8 units, after having closed last Friday with a drop of 1.6% that brought it down to 19,513 points.

Investors will continue today very attentive to the situation in the Middle East, after the President of the United States (USA), Donald Trump, expressed this weekend his willingness to meet with the President of Iran, Masud Pezeshkian, during the annual session of the UN General Assembly being held these days in New York, a gesture that has pressured oil prices downward.

Specifically, this Sunday Trump showed openness to holding a meeting with the Iranian leader in a conversation with journalist and Fox News correspondent in Jerusalem Trey Yingst, to whom the U.S. president made it clear that the alternatives on the table are "to wipe out Iran, let them rot economically, or negotiate." "I hope they behave," he stated.

Regarding the offensive of the Houthi militias in Yemen, Trump reiterated that Washington maintains communication channels with that group and that "they agree that they are not going to fight against the USA."

Meanwhile, the President of the Iranian Parliament, Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf, insisted this Sunday that free passage through the Strait of Hormuz will not be allowed until the conditions set by Tehran are accepted, among which are the lifting of sanctions and the end of hostilities.

"During the last seven months we have shown that we do not surrender to aggression," Qalibaf expressed during a session of Parliament, from where he explained the need to fight and negotiate at the same time.

As a result of this slight rapprochement, the barrel of Brent, the reference in Europe, fell by 1.9% at the opening of European markets, to 102 dollars, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the reference in the USA, decreased by 2%, to 98.3 dollars per barrel.

On the contrary, the most notable declines at the start of the session were those of Repsol (-0.9%), Enagás (-0.6%), Naturgy (-0.5%), Redeia (-0.3%) and Iberdrola (-0.2%).

At the same time, the main European stock exchanges began the week positively: Frankfurt gained 0.7%, Paris advanced 0.6%, London rose just over 0.3% and Milan increased by 0.8%.

In the foreign exchange market, the euro lost ground against the dollar, trading in the markets at 1.1472 "greenbacks," while in the fixed income market, the yield of the Spanish ten-year bond fell to 3.94%.
