The services sector recorded in July an increase in its turnover of 4.8% compared to the same month in 2025, a pace of growth almost four points below that recorded in June and the most moderate since February, when it stood at 2.1%, according to data published this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Thanks to this increase in July, the billing of the services sector has now accumulated 28 consecutive months with positive year-on-year rates.
By activity branches, Statistics details that, within services, commerce raised its billing by 4.8% in the seventh month of the year, while the rest of the services earned 4.7% more than in July 2025.
If seasonal and calendar effects are eliminated, the billing of the entire services sector advanced 5.1% year-on-year in July, almost two points less than the previous month. With this behavior, the corrected series also accumulates 28 consecutive months of year-on-year growth in the sector's turnover.
In monthly comparison, that is, July over June and once seasonal and calendar effects are discounted, sales in the sector fell by 0.7%, after the monthly increase of 1.2% observed in June.
Regarding employment, the services sector generated 1.2% more jobs in July compared to the same month in 2025, which represents a tenth less than the variation recorded in the previous month. Employment in services thus maintains an uninterrupted growth path since April 2021.
