The companies listed on the Spanish Stock Exchange have distributed among their shareholders 35.277 billion euros up to the month of August, which represents an increase of 6.2% compared to the same period of 2025, according to data from Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (BME) collected by Europa Press.

In the entirety of 2025, the companies present on the Spanish market managed to distribute 42.671 billion euros in dividends, the highest volume in the historical series that BME began in 2018.

Although August and September are usually months with a lower remuneration for shareholders, there is still the fourth quarter ahead, traditionally one of the periods with the highest payments to investors: in the last three months of the previous fiscal year, 12.481 billion euros were paid out.

Regarding August of this year, the Spanish listed companies distributed 78 million euros, which implies a decrease of 89.09%. This drop is explained because Logista was the only company that rewarded its shareholders in that month, with a dividend of "0.58 euros gross per share" for the fiscal year.

Before the rise in sovereign debt yields intensified and doubts arose about investments linked to artificial intelligence, the Ibex 35 closed August with a monthly advance of 0.97%, staying just below 20,000 points.

The joint capitalization of the companies listed in Spain increased by 0.83% in the eighth month of 2026 —equivalent to 14.760 billion euros—, reaching 1.789 trillion euros, compared to the closing of the previous month, according to BME statistics.

So far in 2026, the market value of the Spanish Stock Exchange has increased by 12.43%, that is, 197.842 billion euros more compared to the closing of 2025.

If we observe the year-on-year evolution, the stock market capitalization has expanded by 23%, which means an additional 334.678 billion euros compared to the figure recorded in August 2025.

In a sectoral analysis corresponding to August 2026, financial entities have increased their monthly capitalization by 4.35%, which represents 21.048 billion euros more, reaching a total of 505.014 billion euros. Compared to December 2025, this sector adds 86.553 billion euros more, a 20.68% increase.

On the contrary, oil and energy companies closed August with a decrease in their capitalization of 1.20%, equivalent to 3.193 billion euros, placing their combined value at 263.031 billion euros. However, in the year-to-date, they advance by 16.84%, with an increase of 37.908 billion euros.

At the close of August, Banco Santander was positioned as the company with the highest capitalization in the Ibex 35, with 190.202 billion euros, ahead of Inditex, which reached 180.765 billion euros, and BBVA, with 139.697 billion euros.
