The spokesperson of the local Government, Míriam Louzao, has announced a favorable resolution for the City Council of Santiago, by which the Superior Court of Justice of Galicia (TSXG) dismisses the contentious-administrative appeal filed by the Hotel Union Compostela against the ordinance regulating the surcharge on the tax for tourist stays.
As she explained in a press conference, the local Government board was informed in the session this Monday, September 21, of the aforementioned ruling issued by the Galician high court.
Míriam Louzao detailed that the TSXG completely rejected the arguments of challenge raised by the appealing party, so the judicial resolution leaves "definitively established that all legal requirements were met in the drafting of the norm that supports the application in Compostela of the stays tax."
In this regard, she emphasized that this tourist surcharge is fully operational and that its second voluntary collection period closed with a revenue exceeding 1.14 million euros.
Likewise, the spokesperson of the Compostela Government highlighted that the current mandate began with the presentation of a "very thorough" study before the presidency of the Xunta, with the aim of formally requesting the creation of that autonomous tax, as they consider it "just" for the citizens of Compostela.
"We managed to have a demand heard that has majority support in Santiago and, despite the fact that the framework in which we were forced to work was not the easiest at all, we managed to push this tax and this ordinance forward," she emphasized.
