Walmart improves its forecasts for the fiscal year
The company has revised its revenue projections for fiscal year 2027 upwards and now expects an increase of between 4% and 5%, compared to the range of between 3.5% and 4.5% communicated in February, at the beginning of the fiscal year.
Additionally, it expects that operating profit for the year-end will advance between 7% and 8.5%, and places earnings per share in a range of between 2.80 and 2.87 dollars (2.40 and 2.46 euros).
Despite the improvement in forecasts, the market reaction has been negative and Walmart's shares are down about 6% in pre-market trading, to $107.5, compared to the $114.30 marked at the close of the previous session.
"Our business model is strengthening and becoming more sustainable, and we are pleased to raise our forecasts for the year. For third-quarter sales, we anticipate a negative impact of more than 100 basis points on growth due to the date change of Flipkart's Big Billion Days, which will be held between the third and fourth quarters," highlighted Walmart's executive vice president and chief financial officer, John David Rainey.
"Our operating income outlook reflects the continued prioritization of refunds of tariffs received in the second quarter into investments in customer experience and pricing during the second half of the year. For this reason, I recommend that you consider the results of the second and third quarters together to assess the underlying growth of the business," he added.
