The Sumar deputy Lander Martínez has reiterated that, despite the fact that Carles Puigdemont "does not like him at all," he believes that he has "every right in the world to participate normally in politics" and that, in his opinion, "too much time has passed until he has been able to do so."
In statements to Onda Vasca, collected by Europa Press, the Biscayan parliamentarian referred to the Constitutional Court's endorsement of the amnesty for the crime of embezzlement linked to the 'procés' and the option for the former Catalan president to return to Catalonia.
Martínez emphasized that, although he "does not like at all" Carles Puigdemont and wishes that he does not obtain "a good result" in the Catalan elections, he defends that he has "every right in the world to participate in the elections, to campaign, to make his speeches, to participate normally in politics." In this sense, he insisted that, in his view, "too much time has passed until he has been able to do so."
The Sumar deputy has also criticized that Puigdemont "has made wrong decisions," citing as an example the vote against Junts on the Housing Decrees, and has emphasized that during the legislature it has been "very difficult" to work with this formation.
As he lamented, the Catalan party "has made it clear that, despite investing in a progressive government, its agenda had a lot to do with the right and with the business right and with the rentier right and with the right of large property owners," in addition to being "very unpredictable."
"It was very difficult to know what Junts wanted. Without knowing what they want, beyond demonstrating their strength, it is very difficult to negotiate with a political force like that," indicated the Sumar representative. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that "in the end there have been things that have moved forward" with "a lot of effort to build majorities," while in other initiatives "it has been impossible because dialogue was very difficult with this political force."
