The general secretary of the PSdeG, José Ramón Gómez Besteiro, has pointed out that the resignation of the Transport minister, Óscar Puente, "clearly contrasts" with the way the Partido Popular acted in relation to the Angrois accident. "Not all of us are the same," he stressed.

In statements to Europa Press, the leader of the Galician socialists has claimed the "role of dignity" assumed by Óscar Puente, "after giving explanations," of "facing up to it." "It clearly contrasts with what the PP did. Therefore, not all of us are the same," he emphasized, highlighting that difference in behavior.

According to Besteiro, with that "broad-mindedness and that dignity" and "after facing up to it and giving explanations," Puente's attitude places him on a "plane of dignity" as opposed to a PP which, in his view, "never presented resignations when it could and should have done so."

At the same time, he wanted to highlight his time in charge of the Ministry of Transport, stressing the "really historic investments" in Galicia and the impetus given to different projects in the autonomous community.

The general secretary of the PSdeG also referred to President Pedro Sánchez's decision to transfer Transport's competencies to the first vice president and minister of Economy, Carlos Cuerpo, whom he said is an "absolute guarantee of management."

"He is responsible for that economic policy that brings us here, with growth and, above all, with a growth-and-wealth-sharing policy," he said, highlighting measures such as the increase in the Minimum Interprofessional Wage and progress on projects linked to social rights.

Investigation of the Angrois accident

During his appearance, Besteiro insisted that victims must be "looked after," which, he said, constitutes the "priority that cannot be forgotten at any moment." He stressed that it is not only about individualised care, "not only personalised attention, but also the investigation so that the truth is known," defending that an investigation be carried out through an independent commission, in addition to the judicial route.

"This work has to be carried out by Carlos Cuerpo, to which is also added the need to restore safety to all rail transport," he added, to affirm that, "in that sense, Carlos Cuerpo is synonymous with management and solvency."
