Frente Amplio, the coalition of left-wing parties that will participate in the general elections on the upcoming November 29, has designated Rebeca Martín Sánchez as number one for the Congress of Deputies for the constituency of Huelva. At the same time, the current councilor of Con Andalucía in the Huelva City Council, Mónica Rossi, will be the representative of this alliance in the joint candidacy Senate of Progress, a list in which the left-wing coalition and the PSOE converge.
According to the coalition in a press release, with these proposals, Frente Amplio opts for two women with "a broad trajectory of social and political commitment, linked to associative movements, the defense of social rights, and citizen participation, to convey the demands of the province of Huelva to the Cortes Generales."
Rebeca Martín Sánchez, 47 years old, was born in Cortegana and has been residing for some time in the Andévalo region. She is a Secondary Education teacher and a social educator by vocation, with extensive experience in the associative fabric and in projects aimed at promoting democratic values, coexistence, and a culture of peace.
A member of Izquierda Unida, a convinced republican and defender of a secular society model, Martín conceives citizen involvement as "an essential tool to advance towards a fairer, more equal, and democratic society."
The congressional candidate maintains "the need to strengthen a participatory democracy" that makes it possible for the population to intervene "actively in the decisions that affect their daily lives, from the municipal level to the institutions of the State."
In her opinion, the commitment to social transformation "must be developed both from the associative movement and citizen mobilizations as well as from the institutions themselves." Under the idea that "to transform society, one must also govern," Rebeca Martín takes on this new political challenge with the aim of bringing the demands of the Huelva citizenry to Congress.
The list that Martín will lead in Huelva will be composed, in addition to Izquierda Unida, of representatives from other left-wing formations such as Verdes Equo, Iniciativa del Pueblo Andaluz, Somos Valverde, and Sumar, in "a commitment to convergence and the construction of a broad political space that allows for the gathering of forces around a shared project of social transformation."
Mónica Rossi, reference of Frente Amplio in the Senate
On the other hand, Mónica Rossi, councilor of Con Andalucía in the Huelva City Council and responsible for the Network of Activists and Feminism of Izquierda Unida in the province, will be the voice of Frente Amplio in the unitary candidacy called Senate of Progress, in which the Socialist Party also participates after an agreement reached at the federal level between both formations.
This pact has its roots in a citizen initiative that advocated for the convenience of progressive forces running together in the Senate elections, with the aim of promoting electoral unity in a chamber where it is "very important to build a majority that does not block laws as PP and Vox have done in this past legislature."
Residing in the Huelva neighborhood of El Higueral and a social worker by profession, Rossi has "a broad trajectory of political, social, and community commitment," experience that she has transferred in recent years to her institutional work in the Huelva City Council.
Her leap to the Senate candidacy comes after publicly announcing that she will not run again in the upcoming municipal elections of 2027, thus closing a stage of representation in the local sphere and opening a new phase to continue defending the interests of the Huelva population from the institutions of the State.
With this move, Rossi intends to bring to the Upper House the experience acquired over years of work in the neighborhoods of Huelva, in direct contact with the needs of the community and with the demands of social groups.
The designation of Rebeca Martín as head of the list for Congress and the incorporation of Mónica Rossi into the joint candidacy for the Senate symbolize the commitment of Frente Amplio to combine renewal, institutional experience, and roots in social movements.
The coalition faces the general elections on November 29 with the goal of reinforcing the presence of transformative left and placing the priorities of the province of Huelva at the center of the political debate, especially in areas such as the defense of public services, employment, housing, equality, environmental sustainability, and territorial cohesion.
Frente Amplio maintains that the union of different organizations and political sensitivities represents "an opportunity to build an alternative that defends the rights of the social majority and reinforces the presence of the demands from Huelva both in the Congress of Deputies and in the Senate".
