The Minister of Health, Mónica García, has responded harshly to Alberto Núñez Feijóo after the request from the leader of the PP to Pedro Sánchez to decree the confinement of Ceuta due to the supposed "health risk" derived from diseases such as scabies or tuberculosis in the context of the current migration crisis in the autonomous city. The head of Health has defended that what needs to be "confined" is "the ignorance and bad faith of the PP."
In an interview on the program 'Mañaneros 360' of TVE, García has attacked the popular leader. "What Mr. Feijóo says showcases not only his ignorance but also his bad faith in not providing any solution nor, of course, lending a hand with the Government of Spain in any of the cases, but, moreover, alerting and trying to put health at the center of a debate that does not currently exist," criticized the Minister of Health.
The head of the department has emphasized that the health system already has clear protocols to adopt measures of isolation, care, and treatment when infections of this type are detected, for which she reproached the leader of the PP for his ignorance of these procedures. "Something that Mr. Feijóo should know," she charged.
García has detailed that cases of scabies have been detected in Ceuta, which are being attended to by health services. "In addition, we have a couple of cases of chickenpox and positive tuberculin, which is a test that is done, but that has not been confirmed in the case of tuberculosis." With this data, she wanted to put the real epidemiological situation of the city into context.
The minister has added that these diagnoses are not exceptional, recalling that last year 4,700 cases of tuberculosis were reported in Spain and, since the closure of the border in 2020, 90 cases have been counted in Ceuta. "These are infections that are part of everyday life and the epidemiological map of our country," she concluded, downplaying Feijóo's statements and accusing him of using public health as a political weapon.
