The National Police have arrested three participants this Saturday in the concentration called by far-right groups in Madrid, after the incidents recorded when they tried to access the campsite for housing at Puerta del Sol.

The arrested had participated in the call at 20:00 in Cibeles. Subsequently, groups of attendees have headed towards Sol, where the protest for the right to housing remains installed.

Rubber bullets and confrontations in Canalejas

The police intervention has taken place in the area of Canalejas square and Carrera de San Jerónimo. The agents have fired rubber bullets at far-right groups that were trying to reach Sol.

The operation has tried to contain those gathered in the streets near the square. After almost an hour of tension, Carrera de San Jerónimo has reopened to traffic, according to the update from the same newspaper.

The reopening represents a change from the initial moments of the confrontations, although it does not allow for concluding the entire security operation.

A deployment planned to avoid confrontations

The ultra call had motivated a police reinforcement. During the morning of a planned operation of about 500 riot police, with the aim of avoiding confrontations between the participants in that concentration and the people camping in Sol.

Groups such as Núcleo Nacional and Democracia Nacional had supported the call named Indignados por España. There is no information regarding the arrests about the affiliation of those arrested to a specific organization.

A different episode from the march for housing

The nighttime incidents occurred hours after the demonstration for housing that went through Madrid at noon and that took place without incidents.

That mobilization gathered 70,000 people, according to the Government Delegation, and 500,000, according to the Tenants' Union. Its four columns converged in Cibeles. These figures correspond to the protest for housing and not to the subsequent ultra concentration or to the participants in the confrontations.
