The Colombian Geological Service (SGC) reported this Wednesday a seismic movement of magnitude 5.1 on the Richter scale in the department of Santander, in the northeast of Colombia, occurring a few weeks after the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that caused more than 330 fatalities and 4,400 injuries.
According to the agency's details on its social media profiles, the tremor occurred around 11:45 a.m. (local time), with a depth of 149 kilometers and an epicenter located in the municipality of Los Santos.
The National Seismological Network of Colombia (RSNC) explained that it has received more than 2,000 "reports" of shakes coming from around a hundred municipalities, especially from the departments of Santander, Boyacá, and Antioquia.
Its coordinator, Freddy Tovar, emphasized in a video shared on social media that Colombia is a "seismically active" country and that the earthquake this Wednesday was located in a region known as "the seismic nest of Bucaramanga," in the capital of the department of Santander, where "about 40 to 60% of daily seismic activity" occurs.
Authorities have indicated that, for now, this new tremor has not caused any casualties and have insisted that it is not related to the strong earthquake recorded on August 10.
