The president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmud Abbas, has stated this Thursday his hope that the future Israeli Executive that results from the legislative elections held this week adopts concrete measures to reactivate the peace process, paralyzed for years and conditioned by the refusal of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to advance toward a two-State solution.

During a meeting in Nicosia with the president of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, Abbas has pointed out that he trusts that the new political stage "generate an opportunity to restart a serious political dialogue and move toward peace", although for the moment it is unknown whether Netanyahu and his partners will manage to retain power.

At the same time, he has stressed that the Palestinian institutions give "the utmost importance" to achieving security and stability in the Middle East, and has insisted that he maintains his commitment to a "peaceful popular resistance" against the policies and actions of Israel, as reported by the Palestinian news agency WAFA.

Abbas has again condemned the operations of the Israeli security forces and the aggressions of settlers in different parts of the West Bank, as well as the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip after the offensive triggered after the attacks of October 7, 2023, led by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

Along these lines, he has recalled that the Palestinian authorities "have extended their hand for years to Israel" with the aim of reaching a peace agreement that guarantees "security and stability" for both Israelis and Palestinians, and has insisted that the goal must be a comprehensive peace for the whole of the Middle East.
