The Chinese Executive announced this Monday that the president of the country, Xi Jinping, will make a state visit to the United States between Wednesday and Friday, a trip during which he is expected to meet with the American president, Donald Trump, at the White House.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has indicated in a brief note that, "At the invitation of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, President Xi will make a state visit to the United States between September 23 and 25," without providing at the moment additional information about the program or the official events that will be part of this visit.
The meeting between Xi and Trump, announced by the American president himself on July 23, will be the second meeting between the two leaders this year, following the meeting held in Beijing last May. That summit concluded with the joint commitment to move towards "a constructive relationship of strategic stability."
Trump had already indicated in July that the Chinese leader would travel to Washington on September 24, after the American Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, discussed on the margins of a summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the Philippines the advisability of defining areas of cooperation to prepare the foundations for a "very positive visit."
