The Democratic senator from Connecticut, Chris Murphy, has been admitted to a medical center after suffering a stroke, although the forecasts point to him being able to recover completely, according to his team.
Murphy, 53, began to feel "numbness in one arm" on Saturday afternoon and was immediately taken to a hospital, where physicians determined that he had suffered a cerebrovascular accident, as detailed by the senator's office in an official note.
He is currently hospitalized at Johns Hopkins Hospital and "the doctors are encouraged by his progress". "He is awake and alert and we are optimistic about his complete recovery," his chief of staff, Allison Herwitt, indicated in the same statement.
Murphy reelected his seat in the Senate by obtaining a third term in the 2024 elections, so he will continue as senator, at least, until 2028. Before his arrival in the Upper House, he was a member of the House of Representatives between 2007 and 2013.
