The Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, assured this Sunday that the negotiations with Qatari mediation and with the presence of an Iranian delegation are continuing in Doha, with the aim of agreeing on the conditions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, within the framework of a "two-day plan".
"There are consultations with the mediators (Qataris) around a two-day proposal. However, a definitive result has still not been reached. Reaching an agreement will depend on the answers that the other side offers to our questions," he stated in declarations to the semi-official Iranian news agency ICANA.
"We are making all possible efforts in this regard and we hope that the other side has the necessary prudence to prioritize diplomacy over other avenues," he argued.
According to Araqchi, the Iranian mission deployed to Qatar is made up of deputy foreign ministers and its visit is framed within the continuation of the conversations that Tehran has been holding in recent weeks with the Qatari mediators. The head of Iranian diplomacy has underlined that no meeting with representatives of the United States is on the agenda.
At the same time, he has emphasized that Iran "is prepared both for defense and for diplomacy". "The path the Americans choose will depend on their own prudence," he pointed out.
"Our armed forces (...), after having learned from the two previous armed conflicts, are today considerably stronger than before," he highlighted.
Later on, in an interview, Araqchi detailed that the aforementioned two-day plan is already a concrete proposal to put an end to the crisis. "I can say that now we have achieved a two-day plan. This means that on the first day the United States applies a series of measures and on the second day the Strait of Hormuz is reopened and traffic returns to its previous state," he pointed out.
The minister specified several conditions that Tehran considers essential, among them the withdrawal of all the "new sanctions" imposed after the Islamabad memorandum of understanding or "the reduction of military forces to their previous levels". "There is also the lifting of the blockade and the withdrawal of the sanctions on oil," he noted.
In any case, he has rejected as "media speculations" the reports about a possible meeting with American emissaries. "We do not need to meet. Our conditions are clear. If the United States agrees to these conditions, the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened and the talks will begin," he explained.
