At least four people have lost their lives this Sunday in a new series of bombings carried out by the Israeli Army against southern Lebanon, after alleging that it was responding to "violations" of the ceasefire by the Shiite militia party Hezbollah, following the launch of drones against its forces.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health has detailed that, for now, two fatalities have been recorded in Nabatiye al Fuqa and another two in Arab Salim, where six injured have also been counted, including two minors, according to the Lebanese state agency NNA. In Nabatiye, another eight injured have also been confirmed.
Hours before the attacks, the Israeli Army had ordered the evacuation of Arab Salim after accusing Hezbollah of "a flagrant violation of the ceasefire" for launching "a drone with explosives" against Israeli forces deployed in the south of the neighboring country.
The Arabic spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Ella Waweya, stated then that "Hezbollah's terrorist activity forces the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to act decisively," and called for part of the population of the locality to evacuate in anticipation of new bombings.
Subsequently, she indicated that the Shiite group launched more drones and emphasized that the Israeli forces managed to shoot down one of them, an incident that resulted "without casualties" among the military and that prompted the IDF to carry out new attacks against several targets in southern Lebanon "in response."
"The IDF forces will continue to operate in the security zone to eliminate any threat against the citizens of the State of Israel and the IDF themselves," Waweya stated, who emphasized that the troops "will continue to act firmly against the repeated attempts of the terrorist organization Hezbollah to attack the forces."
On June 26, Lebanon and Israel reached, with the mediation of the United States, a preliminary agreement that established the foundations for a permanent ceasefire. The understanding contemplated the restoration of Lebanese sovereignty in the south of the country and the disarmament of Hezbollah, a point that the organization has categorically rejected.
Since that date, Israel has invoked security reasons and Hezbollah's refusal to accept the agreement to maintain its military operations in southern Lebanon, in the context of the new invasion initiated after the Shiite group fired projectiles against Israeli territory in response to the joint offensive launched on February 28 by the United States and Israel against Iran.
