A seismic event of magnitude 6.3 on the open Richter scale has struck this Thursday the coastal area of the state of Alaska, in the northwest of the United States, with no reports of casualties or material damage communicated so far.
According to data provided by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the tremor has been located about 84 kilometers southwest of Nikolski, with a hypocenter situated approximately 35 kilometers deep below the surface.
The Alaska Earthquake Center has specified that, after the main tremor, around a dozen aftershocks have been detected, of which at least three have exceeded magnitude 4 on the open Richter scale. On the other hand, the Pacific Tsunami Center has indicated that, for now, it is not considered necessary to activate warnings or alerts for tsunami risk.
