The French Executive has expressed its firm rejection of the intervention of the Iranian security forces in the facilities of the French Language Center in Tehran and the subsequent closure of this cultural space dedicated to the teaching of French, a decision that has led Paris to call its ambassador in the Iranian capital for consultations.
In a statement disseminated on social media, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France described the actions of the Iranian authorities as "unjustifiable and unacceptable" and emphasized that France condemns what happened "in the strongest possible terms."
The French Government interprets this episode as a new attack against the presence and cultural activities of France in Iran, and links it to the aggression recorded last July against two employees of the French Embassy in the country.
The Ministry has also warned that the closure of the center will directly impact the Iranian citizens who benefited from its services. According to French diplomacy, every year thousands of Iranians attend the French courses offered by this institution.
In light of this scenario, the Government of France has announced that it will take "appropriate measures" in response to the actions of the Iranian authorities. As part of this diplomatic response, the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, has ordered the summons of the ambassador of the Islamic Republic, who must present himself at the Quai d'Orsay.
