The president of Iran, Masud Pezeshkian, has conveyed this Monday his congratulations to the elected president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, after winning in the second round of the presidential elections against the far-right candidate Flávio Bolsonaro. In his official message, he emphasized his willingness to promote greater rapprochement between the two countries.

"I hope that during your new term, the friendship relations between Iran and Brazil expand even further and that cooperation between both countries in areas of common interest advances, in line with the common interests of the two nations and the strengthening of multilateralism, development, and international peace," he said.

The Iranian leader has also sent Lula his "best wishes" for him to "succeed in this important responsibility" at the head of the South American country and has expressed "his wishes for prosperity" for Brazil, according to the statement released by the Iranian Presidency.

According to the data provided by the electoral commission, Lula has achieved 51.77% of the valid votes compared to 48.23% obtained by the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, with 99.89% of the ballots counted and a turnout that approaches 80.8% of the electorate.
