The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova has decided this Monday to summon its ambassador in Moscow, Lilian Darii, after the fall of a Russian drone in Crocmaz, in the Stefan Voda district. The device has caused material damage to several buildings in this locality in the south of the country, although no casualties have been reported.
The department has classified what happened as a "serious violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity" of Moldova and has pointed out that the incident "has endangered" the safety of the population. Furthermore, it has reiterated that "Moldova condemns Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and its consequences for the security of our country and the entire region."
The Moldovan president, Maia Sandu, has also "strongly" denounced the "latest violation" of the country's airspace by Moscow. "This is a direct consequence of Russia's war, and it puts us all in danger. The risk to human life in our region is real and is growing. It must be stopped," she stated.
The incident occurred the night before in Crocmaz, where a loud explosion was heard. Investigation teams located debris from a drone in the area and have indicated that the device would have detonated after colliding with a tree in a wooded area.
Crocmaz is located near the Ukrainian region of Odesa, which was the target of a large-scale Russian attack on Sunday. This episode takes place after Moldovan authorities found debris from another Russian drone near the locality of Valeni, in the Cahul district, next to the border with Romania.
