At least one person has died and ten others have been injured in recent hours as a result of a ballistic missile and drone attack launched by Russian forces against various residential areas, educational and health centers in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, local authorities have reported.
The city's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, has specified that nine of the ten injured had to be evacuated to hospitals, with three of them in serious condition. Most of the affected are students who were in a university residence in the Desnianski district, whose facilities have suffered significant damage. The fatal victim lost their life near a supermarket in the Dniprovski district, where the blast wave from the missiles shattered the windows of the intensive care units of two medical centers.
During the rescue efforts, an ambulance heading to the area to attend to emergencies was hit, injuring a paramedic and a technician. Both are out of danger and have been able to continue performing their duties. The Russian bombings, which have kept air raid sirens active throughout the night, have also caused damage to an administrative building in the Podilski district and in several residential areas, where rescue teams are still searching for possible people trapped under the rubble.
The Military Administration of the City of Kiev has denounced that the ballistic missiles have directly impacted "very crowded places" in the capital, such as parks and metro stations, emphasizing that there are no military targets in those areas.
In light of this new wave of attacks, Ukrainian authorities have once again urged their Western allies to fulfill "promptly" the commitments for the supply of air defense systems and to provide Ukraine with the necessary means to destroy the Russian launch platforms.
